Abstract

The use of mobile devices is on the increase worldwide, and mobile technologies are opening up opportunities for individuals with special needs to easily access supports, information, services, and education. Mobile technologies can provide benefits to individuals with special needs including: increased productivity, improved safety, learning activities, reduced isolation, access to interfaces for communication, text to speech functionality, scanning, voice or video prompting, and so on. This paper provides a brief introduction to a series of papers that explore a number of ways that mobile technologies can benefit individuals with special needs in educational environments across a range of ages from preschool to adult.
