N2 - Technological trends such as IoT, AI (artificial intelligence), etc. are having a significant impact on processes, products, services. In addition, business models, and the speed and impact of the resulting changes are noteworthy. Most of these technologies are not innovative per se, but develop innovative strengths through significant efficiency gains, significantly better networking possibilities, and widespread use. While economies of scope are realized in the world of customized or small-lot production, servitization serves as a platform to expand the scope of business. Digitalization efforts in the manufacturing industry will also bring significant changes to the supply chain. The following case studies are discussed: a startup that provides online quotation and ordering services for design data in the cloud, a consortium of robotics and system integrators that is working to make the manufacturing industry smarter, and an AI-based company that is fully automating machining programming and completing a smart factory. The chapter analyzes these cases from the viewpoint of business ecosystems.
