I am a medical microbiologist, with specific expertise in bacterial genomics, gene expression, bacterial pathogenesis, and antibiotic resistance. Over my career my research has focused on the genetic determinants of bacterial disease, bacterial mechanisms of survival, genomics, bacterial evolution, biofilms, and antibiotic resistance. More recently my research has been dedicated to understanding the impacts of development and climate change on the environment through microbial and metagenomics approaches with interdisciplinary teams and traditional knowledge holders.

My current research is focused on understanding the impacts of human development on the environment, particularly with respect to water quality, biodiversity, and food supply. Our research team employs metagenomics analysis in collaboration with traditional knowledge holders and an interdisciplinary research team to understand and mitigate the impacts of climate change and human development on environmental health.
