Research Interests

I am passionate about promoting outreach and citizen (participatory) science in rural and remote communities. Lately, I am involved in a project that focuses on increasing capacity of environmental monitoring in Indigenous communities in the Athabasca, Cold Lake and Peace River regions.

Personal profile

Lisa holds a doctorate in science, with specialization in microbiology and immunology, and has served as a teacher and researcher who studied human autoimmune disease processes and later, neuroimmune mechanisms in infection. Lisa is passionate about making a difference in science education and science outreach, especially for under-represented groups and people in rural and remote communities. In the past decade, Lisa has been honoured to build science awareness and environmental impacts of industry in Indigenous communities of the Athabasca, Peace River and Cold Lake regions. Lisa has worked with colleagues and partners in building programs and courses to prepare learners for a changing world. Lisa is a visitor of the treaty land on which she works, and honours the many First Nations, Metis, and Inuit who have stewarded these lands for generations. She is committed to deepen her knowledge and understanding of responsibilities to land and community.
