Research Interests

Dr. Lana Ray (Anishinaabe-Opwaaganasiniing) is an Associate Professor in Health Disciplines at Athabasca University and Co-Director of the Anishinaabe Kendaasiwin Institute (AKI) at Lakehead University. She previously held academic appointments at Lakehead University in the Indigenous Studies Department and School of Nursing and has over a decade of experience working in the public and not-for profit sectors, including as the Director of Policy and Research at a provincial Indigenous organization. She is a prior recipient of the emerging Indigenous scholar award at the International Conference on Qualitative Inquiry and the co-Chair of the Cancer Research Programme at the Global Alliance for Chronic Disease. Dr. Ray’s work seeks to advance Indigenous social, cultural and political realities through resurgent and decolonial praxis focused in the areas of health, systems change, Indigenous data sovereignty, and education.
