The ethical use of generative AI in higher education

Impact: Policy, Scholarly

Description of impact

My research examines the ethical use of generative AI in higher education, with a focus on student AI disclosure, self-regulated learning, academic integrity, and equity. I have identified distinct profiles of student disclosure behaviour and documented reasons why many students underreport AI use even in permissive contexts. I have also developed practical contributions designed for direct implementations by educators and learners, including the CHAT-ACTS framework for AI-mediated learning and MetaMentorAI (https://MetaMentorAI.online), a state of the art applied tool that supports learners’ SRL. These practical contributions translate my research on self-regulated learning and ethical AI use into classroom practice. Through the AI-EDU Research Lab channel and ongoing cross-institutional collaboration, I mobilize this work for scholarly and practitioner audiences, generating evidence that informs policy, classroom practice, and public conversation about responsible AI integration in education.
