Description of impact

Despite rising referrals for ADHD and autism assessments, clinicians continue to struggle with diagnostic differentiation, especially in underrepresented groups. Simultaneously, many mental health professionals experience self-doubt and imposter syndrome, which undermines their effectiveness and wellbeing. In response to these pressing needs, Dr. Caroline Buzanko shared applied research findings through two widely circulated podcast episodes: (1) The Testing Psychologist, focusing on differential diagnosis between ADHD and autism; and (2) Practice of the Practice, addressing how clinicians can overcome impostor feelings and limiting beliefs. These episodes synthesized neurodevelopmental science, diagnostic clarity, and psychological flexibility research to offer practical frameworks and tools for immediate use in clinical settings.

The episodes were accessed by thousands of testing psychologists and mental health professionals, with Dr. Buzanko’s content ranked among the top episodes of 2023 on The Testing Psychologist and in the Top 10 of all time on Practice of the Practice, the #1 podcast for counselors in private practice. Clinicians reported improved diagnostic confidence, greater clarity in interpreting overlapping symptoms of ADHD and autism and increased self-efficacy in navigating professional identity and internalized self-doubt. Impact was demonstrated through high engagement metrics (downloads, re-shares, episode rankings), qualitative feedback from listeners, and increased outreach for further training and consultation. These contributions have supported more accurate assessment practices and improved clinician wellbeing.
